“It's easier to hold your principles 100 percent of the time than it is to hold them 98 percent of the time.” -Clayton Christensen (How Will You Measure Your Life?)
Values are a rare thing in this world. Rarer still are people that keep those values throughout their entire lives. Compromising them leads to losing a piece of who you are. Some compromise them for money, others for power, some for practically nothing other than wanting to look cool or important.
It is a lot easier to say no to the things you hate doing when you refuse to do them at all. It’s always easier to cheat the second time than the first. So the easiest way to keep those values is to never compromise them for any reason in the first place.
But let’s face it, life is tough sometimes. People are selfish, they want what they want when they want it and only give you what you want when it benefits themselves more. Life should not be a compromise, it should lived with intent. Just like your career, if you don’t take ownership of your need to progress, no one will.
