đ Cognition of the Bookâs Big Idea:
Good managers should focus on helping their employees reach their maximum potential, as this is the most effective approach to boost the company's performance. To accomplish this effectively, managers should employ three time-saving management tools: one-minute goals, one-minute praise, and one-minute reprimands.
Onboard new staff personally.
The next time you recruit someone, use the one-minute manager's tools. Begin by creating one-minute performance targets, and then explain that you will observe and examine the employee's work to evaluate their performance. Then, when assessing their work, try to identify something - anything - that they did correctly or about right, and give them some one-minute praise. It will enhance their drive and inspire them to go harder the following time.
đ ď¸Fixing the Tech Industry
Itâs crazy to think how many managers shouldnât be managers. We think that the person who has been doing the job the longest should be promoted to handling the team that does the job.
But this is far from normal. Usually Executives donât want to hire managers from within the company. Too much familiarity can cause production issues. But isnât that a sign of good manager? Someone who knows exactly what its like at the bottom?
