Book Byte #161 "The Purpose Effect" by Dan Pontefract
Building Meaning in Yourself, Your Role and Your Organization

đ Cognition of the Bookâs Big Idea
Regaining our "why" serves as the cornerstone of purpose, both personally and professionally.
Everyone gainsâthe company, the workers, and the communityâwhen an individual's purpose coincides with that of their employer and the organization itself has a values-based mission that resonates with that individual.
Titles and money are transient incentives that don't sustain unilaterally high performance. Loyalty, creativity, and engagement are all nourished by genuine purpose. However, this alignment isn't accidental; rather, it calls for reflection, dedication, and teamwork.
Teams will be inspired and motivated by those prepared to take a radical step toward discovering their inner purpose, and they will effect long-lasting organizational change. The effects are profound: when executives and people align around a common goal, they go beyond conventional measures and create companies that improve society as a whole.
đ ď¸Fixing the Tech Industry
Purpose seems to elude us all at one point or another in our careers. When you think you found your purpose, it seems to leave very quickly and makes it even harder to find your purpose the next time.
Thatâs because our purpose changes as we change. When we look for our purpose and focus on only that, we forget to work and continue on helping the people in need, which had everything to finding fulfilling purpose anyway.
Itâs way more important to help people imperfectly than to overthink about what can you do that will be the most effective outcome for the people (including yourself) you need to help. Start Small, Start Now.
