“Once you set goals that really matter to you, you are no longer the same person. Real goals will affect almost everything you do all day long. And they will be with you wherever you go. Your handshake, your manner of dressing, the tone of your voice, the way you feel — all will change once you have goals. That’s because when your goals matter, everything you do becomes related to their accomplishment.” -Jim Rohn (7 Strategies for Wealth & Happiness)
Goals are a funny thing. The old adage lines up: “You can’t live with them and you can’t live without them”. When you don’t have any goals or you choose to stop pursuing them, even temporarily, your life loses meaning. We are meant to progress in this life, to become better, to become more valuable, but since the world changes so frequently, we must also change frequently. Sometimes we have to change before the world does, and that’s what it means to be a leader. That’s you setting the example of what progress really means in the life of others.
So if you are in charge of your own destiny, and you actively refuse your calling to help others, are you ever going to be more than you are now? Do you really understand that progression is the way to finding a fulfilling life and that comfort is the enemy? Everyone is trying to sell us comfort and luxuries, but no one wants to sell you anything of real value, like the value of hard work and integrity.
Unfortunately for them, they’ll end up paying the price of consistent comfort eventually.
