“The most significant trend in human creativity is the shift from individuals to teams, and the gap between teams and individuals is increasing with time” -Matthew Syed (Rebel Ideas)
The more you go looking to include other people in what you’re trying to do, the better chance you’ll have of actually accomplishing it. Sure there are some activities you’d rather do alone, and everyone always hated Group Projects growing up, but doing things with other people you actually like is a huge source of happiness.
Just think back to High School or College, your friends were your everything, you wanted to just spend all your time with them, doing things you love. You loved when you had class together, you love when you did extracurriculars together. Those bonds probably lasted a lifetime. It’s because of the bond you made during those seemingly challenging times that allowed you to be successful, and have a lot of fun along the way.
In our Professional lives, we rarely get that experience again, be it because we focus more on our own family, or we’re more interested in climbing the corporate latter then making friends. It’s rough to see that’s how most of us turned out. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Make the effort to make friends at work, and do work projects together whenever you can. You’ll be surprised how happy you can become by making this simple change.
