"In times like these it is good to remember that there have always been times like these." -Paul Harvey
Everyone complains. I’m sure the serf on the farm in Medieval Times complained. I’m sure the monk rewriting his 100th bible complained. I’m sure that it’s entirely human to complain against your lot in life, no matter how relatively good or bad that life may be.
But what most don’t realize is that complaining is not cathartic, it’s reaffirming. The more you focus on the bad of your life, the more you’ll hate your life. It’s a Negative feedback loop that will make you complain more and more, focusing on the bad things you’ve been dealt.
The cure is gratefulness. Being grateful means you don’t have room for any other negative emotion. Everything is taken up by your feeling of gratefulness. Sure, sometimes feeling worthless and stupid is inevitable, but when you feel grateful, you’ll find more and more things to be grateful about. Then as you work through your issues, you’ll gain more and more momentum to fix the rest of them.
