“When the right people advocate for your work, your success becomes more likely. Being good is necessary, but it is not sufficient. Skill is a prerequisite for creative success, but talent is only part of the equation. The rest is network.” -Jeff Goins (Real Artists Don’t Starve)
It doesn’t matter how smart you are or how capable you are. It doesn’t matter how fast you are or how strong you are. The main thing that matters is how connected you are. We are social beings. We only have power when others give it to us. Whether that be through kindness or manipulation, that’s completely up to you
But if you expect to do anything without a network, I’m sorry to say, you won’t get very far. That’s why its imperative that you plant seeds of help to any and all those that will have it, because being owed a favor can cause you to go from zero to one in a heartbeat, much faster than anything you could grind through, and the journey becomes less lonely with someone else anyways.
