1 Story from Experience
At my job, things were not going well. I was mistreated, hadn't received a raise in a long time, and had a greater workload due to coworker layoffs. I decided to move on and started taking interviews, even from out-of-state companies. I got an interview with a company two states away and they offered me a position, which I accepted. I moved my whole family to start the new job.
During training, I realized my trainer knew less than me and my frustration with that probably showed. One day, I returned late from lunch due to traffic, and they used that incident and my attitude as reasons to fire me only a week later.
The lesson here is that interviews are not always accurate assessments of who you are or your potential. It's unclear if the company made a mistake hiring me or if I made a mistake interviewing with them. What's important is to approach interviews as evaluations of your skills and experience rather than your character. Job searching is a horrible process for the human psyche. Don’t treat it like not hiring you or ignoring your resume is an attack on you as a human. It’s just Business.
2 Ideas from Me
Webapps are a way better standard than Apple or Android App Stores. It kind of infuriates me how a basic unit of today’s computing relies on walled gardens of appstores. I should be able to run whatever I want to on my phone. While Security is a concern, I get to decide what comes in and out of my house, why don’t I get the wideband discretion to do the same on my phone?
Airbnb is kind of imploding, mostly due to high mortgage interest rates. It’s happening in a lot of other tech industries. Everyone’s willing to pay for convenience of mobile bookings and food delivery, until they can’t afford it anymore. The cost of everything is going up and the first thing people cut is luxury item purchases, so building a business in that niche is highly lucrative but can also be highly volatile. It’s always better to work in an industry that’s needed through the good times and the bad, like toilet paper or internet broadband.
