1 Story from Experience
I knew a lot about Windows XP, configuration, deployment, I knew it inside and out. Does that knowledge serve me now? Not in the slightest. Learning the Principles of how Operating Systems operate are important for any Tech to learn, but there will come a point in your Career where what you know best becomes useless, outdated information. Tech Careers need some of the fastest evolving skill requirements needed of any job on earth. It’s good business to be looking out for the next thing. Gaining another certification will help you find that new and better job down the road. Although becoming comfortable with your current knowledge will bite you in the butt down the road, Obsolescence is always just around the corner of Apathy.
Remember the ABC’s of Good Techmanship: “Always Be Curious” There’s a lot of talk about AI and how it’s going to take everyone’s jobs. When AI can write a perfect PowerShell script and Easily Subnet out your Router Configuration, what will keep our skills in Demand? Sooner or later you’ll be sent to a retirement home, grumpily moaning about how back in our day Windows XP didn’t have all those invasive advertisements in the search bar and Internet Explorer was the bane of our existence, yet we dealt with it because it was our only option.
TLDR: Keep your Skills Up to Date. Always be Curious. Get that Certification you’re thinking about. Knowledge is Power. The only job security we’ll have against AI is our Human Soft Skills. Leadership, Management, Empathy, Building Connections between Systems and People. All these will benefit you throughout your career, no matter what version of Windows we're on.
