When most of us think about Social Media and how it’s changed our lives, most would say it’s become more of burden than a helpful tool the platforms want you to think it is. We have to wade through all the ads, all the crap popping up in our timelines, all the politics and overrated opinions of others. But most forget, before all that ruined our outlook of social media, we used to have a good time connecting on the internet.
I think around the time that marketers found they could make money through providing the platforms for us to connect as individuals was where things started to go wrong. When attention became the driving factor of us posting and not for true connection, we started to lose ourselves. Priorities changed, and became mostly inhuman. When we do things for attention rather than connection, those things tend to be a lot less human. They became more mechanical, more strategic, even sometimes bat-like crazy.
Sometimes I’d like to get back to old fashioned email and texting be the extent of Online Social Activity, maybe even a Old school Online Forum or Two. But this endless timeline of scrolling for more attention grabbing content has put us on the wrong path. Luckily, you don’t have to participate in it, you can go back and develop true connection with other people like you. All you have to do is care and talk to someone directly instead of mindless scrolling through content.
Until Tomorrow,
