Book Byte #392
Curious Quotes from the Book
“AI has the potential to be an incredible force for transformation — one that could bring greater prosperity, create better jobs, and solve problems we've
never been able to tackle.”
“AI has the potential to be an incredible force for good, one that can create
better jobs, drive greater prosperity, and solve problems we've struggled with for
generations. But to realise this potential, we need to actively engage — as indi-
viduals, leaders, and societies.”
Cognition of the Book’s Main Idea
AI differs from earlier industrial revolutions in that it directly replaces human talents, bringing about change at the human level rather than at the industry level.
The future of AI can be divided into three categories: Different AI, which results in completely new innovations; Cheaper/Better/Faster AI, which results in the greatest job displacement; and Enhancing AI, which results in cooperative relationships and highly skilled experts.
AI is undoubtedly going to have a significant impact on the workforce, but with more knowledge, we might still be able to view it as a collaborative tool rather than a threat to jobs. We must address the larger societal issues and develop ethical standards and policies that avoid mass displacement, even as we upskill workers to be excellent AI collaborators. By doing this, we can steer AI development in a way that benefits everyone and prevent a future in which a small number of people reap the majority of the benefits. The future of employment is something to influence rather than something to be afraid about.
