“The Creative Act” by Rick Rubin is a manual for the Creative Mind, but couldn’t really be called a manual because of how fluid and unpredictable the emotional state is of someone who creates. He states that anyone can be an Artist and that creativity isn’t just meant for people who are of a genius mindset. The only requirement to being Creative is you need to dedicate yourself towards the process.
What process should we follow? He goes on to say that each process is different for every individual and that only by planting the seeds of you creativity, nurturing your creative process and tying your best to not have any rote expectations will you truly allow something great to grow outside of you. Enjoying the process is essential to making your creative garden a success.

📣 Curious Quotes from the Author:
”To create is to bring something into existence that wasn’t there before.”
”To live as an artist is a way of being in the world. A way of perceiving. A practice of paying attention.”
”The ability to look deeply is the root of creativity. To see past the ordinary and mundane and get to what might otherwise be invisible.”
📚 Cognition of the Book’s Big Idea:
From my perspective, the Book starts off as a Gurus guide to making sense of the creative process. But as you read it, you finally begin to understand that being an Artist is not about expectations and but all about growth. As a farmer, you know what it takes to grow crops, but you wont expect the same plant to grow the same exact height, produce the same amount of yield and you may just find another type of crop mixed in with your harvest.
According to the Author there are 6 things we can do to make great art:
1. Open your mind to allowing yourself to be inspired
2. Take note of what Distracts you and throw it away
3. Make sure you feel fear, it’s a sign your doing something dire for your growth
4. Don’t take everything so seriously, Art is about fun and flow
5. Create the Art you want to see in the world for yourself only
6. Don’t confuse Art with it’s needs, Art doesn’t need anything to exist other than you
