The Lie of "Being Busy"

“What if we stopped celebrating being busy as a measurement of importance? What if instead we celebrated how much time we had spent listening, pondering, meditating, and enjoying time with the most important people in our lives?” -Greg Mckeown (Essentialism)

Is being busy inherently good?

I’m here to say it isn’t. Many use the word “Busy” in many different ways:

  • I’m Busy, I can’t do that for you = You’re not a High Enough Priority for me now”

  • I’m Busy, I don’t have time for that = I’m crappy at prioritizing

  • I’m Busy, I can’t make it tonight = I really hate going to those things

Be mindful of the time you spend in places that give you no value. But when you’ve spent no time with Friends or you never allow yourself to collaborate and help others, don’t get mad when other people stop trying and leave you alone, and you become just that, alone, but busy.

Plant the seeds before you want to reap the rewards of being social. Otherwise, you’ll need to pretend you’re busy for the rest of your life to stop feeling like no one cares about you, because say you’re busy enough times and people will end up not caring about you anyways.

Until Tomorrow,
