1 Story from Experience
I’ve met a lot of people throughout my career, the ones that left an impact on me were often the kindest ones. The Angry Bosses and Manipulative Co-Workers were quite forgettable. You know, the kind of people that would often take credit for things you did or yelled at you for making mistakes or not finishing a task on their timetable.
I saw a lot of managers and bosses in the Tech World that thought a lot about themselves. They seemed to gather a sense of importance around them just because they were making the decisions and they enjoyed that power. Very few actually used their decision powers to help their employees as well as getting the work done. It was very obvious when one of them took the lead on a project, you felt their leadership could empower you to get stuff done quicker and more efficiently, not because they yelled at you to do it that way, but more that you wanted to impress them and do that for them because of how you were treated.
Tech Workers tend to be the most misunderstood bunch. Developers and IT People, they seem to always work on the lower floors and treated as such. Most likely how a rich family might treat a construction worker: In desperate need of them, but also looking down on them while they build them a house. Those that are kind to us, we tend to drift towards, and when we feel we got a good boss, we treasure them because they don’t come around to often. The broken or barely afloat corporations need more managers like this, however tend to promote those in the other dirty pool, as they are the most boisterous of the the two. If ever in a position to hire these type of managers, remember the old saying: You catch more flies with Honey than Vinegar.
2 Ideas from me
I need a tinder for Business Partners. Your Profile and Skills are laid out, along with some of your Online work. It’s so hard to find other people searching for a Business Partner because how do you know someone’s looking for someone to partner in Business with?
Why aren’t businesses like Hello Fresh doing copycat recipes for things and restaurants you only can get out of state? License them, whatever, just let me get a SoCal Donut somewhere not California.
