Dixie was our Kitty. Part Siamese, Part Calico from what we could tell. My In-Laws brought her home from the Pound many years ago when she was about 2 years old. She grew up in her forever home. She loved exploring her big backyard and playing with her adopted brother, a Terrier Mix Puppy named “Champ”.
A few months after I quit my Job in IT after 20 years to pursue building my own Company, we sold our house and we’re looking to build a new one in the Silicon Slopes area of Utah. We decided we’d stay with my Mother-in-Law for awhile until we finished building our house.
Well 2 months later, COVID Quarantine was enacted. Home Building Stopped, everything was shutdown. We stayed there, living in my Mother-In-Laws Basement, until the world resumed working again.
That is where I came up with the Idea for Club255, in that very basement. I would start this Newsletter down there, one that would focus on helping the Digital Technicians of the world be more collaborative with each other, help one another, and help themselves feel like they were part of something greater. Sort of like an Unofficial Union of Tech Workers.
Dixie would always come down while I was working on this newsletter. She would jump up on me while I was at the computer desk and ask for scratches and attention, and of course I would give it to her. I’m pretty allergic to Cats, we never had pets growing up because of it, but Dixie’s love was totally worth the occasional stuffy and itchy nose.
Dixie past away almost 3 years ago. She was a great Kitty, always curious and always friendly to anyone new. She always gravitated towards the males of the family though, she just always appreciated their affection more for some reason.
So I think it’s fitting to make Dixie, the 1st Official Mascot of Club255. Hopefully we can all become as friendly as she was, to help fix a world so bent out of shape because of the excessive Hate, Suffering and Loneliness we experience everyday.
Here’s to honoring the spirit of that precious kitty…
