Priorities are one of life’s truly great examples of your innate agency. Do you have enough time to do everything you ever wanted to do? Of course not, you must choose, in a certain order, the things you are capable of. If you choose to become a Professional Snowboarder, you’re probably not going to become a Professional Baseball Player. If you are a professional eater, most likely you’re going to have to choose to goto the gym every day or suffer from being extremely overweight.
Whatever the case may be and whatever you choose, you need to accept the consequences. This is why Entrepreneurship is so hard. No one wants you to win, they won’t believe in you and they will mock you for trying. But all they are really doing is mocking themselves for not believing in themselves like you are, and you become a channel for them for all their negative emotion towards themselves. Your choices are yours and yours alone, and they wish their choices were their own too, but at some point they gave up choosing what was right for them, and now are going to take it out on you.
That’s why the opinions of other should never weigh heavily on your choices. Everything decision you make blocks off another road you could have gone down. Embrace the closing of one road, because if you fall into the trap of thinking about all the what-ifs, you’ll never see the road that’s clearly ahead of you, the one you decided to go down at the cost of all the other decisions you could have made.
