“So many times you will see people wringing their hands and saying 'I want to know what my mission in life is,' all the while they are cutting people off on the highway, refusing to give time to people, punishing their mate for having hurt their feelings or lying about what they did.” -Richard N. Bolles (What Color is your Parachute?)
Something I’ve noticed over the years of working in corporate circles is that the people that impressed me most were the unusually kind ones. It didn’t matter if they were in a leadership position or not, the people that were default kind to me, even when they were in a Technological Crisis Mode, were the ones that stood out to me.
They were the ones I would would spend extra time helping, they were the ones I would help get them exactly what they needed without delay. The louder ones? The more demanding and angry ones? Those I tended to procrastinate requests from, perhaps subconsciously.
I felt that the ones who were unusually kind seemed to have their lives together, and it showed in everything they did.
So if you are having trouble at work, or with the people at work, have you tried to be a little kinder? You should only ever worry about what you can control, and something you always will be able to control is your own attitude.
