“Directing your attention toward the most important object of your choosing—and then sustaining that attention—is the most consequential decision we will make throughout the day. We are what we pay attention to.” -Chris Bailey (Hyperfocus)
Anytime we focus on something, there’s a chance that we will find out that we love focusing on it. We find that it was the thing that was missing in our life. Other times, we’ll find out we hate it, and we want nothing to do with it. Sometimes we find out we hate it, but it’s definitely necessary. This could look like figuring out a hard problem at work or learning a new skill needed to get a promotion.
Whatever the case may be, we need to be aware which side of the track we are on. Do we love this? Is this a Heck Yes? If it isn’t, it’s a no. It may end up being a “I don’t want to do this, but I guess I have to if I want this other thing”. We need to focus on the things we actually want and forget all the rest. Being in control of your time is the only way you’ll feel fulfilled in your work.
