“Work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. The other four balls-- family, health, friends, integrity-- are made of glass. If you drop one of these, it will be irrevocably scuffed, nicked, perhaps even shattered.” -Gary Keller (The One Thing)
Work is resilient, and always plentiful. There’s always work to do. What there isn’t an abundance of is time. Children grow up, opportunities fade, health can quickly deteriorate, if you don’t value the time of others, they will immediately think less of you.
But then why do we give the highest prioritization in our lives to Work? It’s the first thing we get ready for when we wake up and what we usually think about it when we get home.
Work is a tool to get us what we actually need, food, shelter, the ability to support others. It is not the end all, so if you’re stuck in a job you hate and have been doing it for awhile, ask yourself, is this all there is to life?
Do something you can be proud of, something you’re excited about, you won’t regret it, I can guarantee at least that much!
